EMMAUS BOYS COACHING STAFF

Varsity Head Coach: John Cari 7th Year

2011 marks Coach John Cari‘s seventh season as the head coach for the Emmaus High School Boys Soccer Team.

In his first six years, Cari has compiled a 95-38-9 record winning five Lehigh Valley Conference titles in six years, more than any other boys coach in the program’s history. Cari also has won two consecutive District 11 Titles. He has twice been name Coach of the Year. In 2005, Cari was named coach of the year by the Morning Call. During that season, the Hornets went 20-4-1 winning their first LVC title, and eleventh District 11 title. Cari was also named Coach of the year for the Lehigh Valley Conference in 2008 after guiding his team to their fourth consecutive league championship.

In 2010, The Hornets won their seventh consecutive LVC Western Division title and 14th league title beating Parkland 1-0.. They were knocked out of the district playoffs to eventual district champion Easton on a late penalty call in overtime. The 2010 team spent much of the year ranked in the top ten in the state,
Before being named head coach, Cari served six seasons as the Junior Varsity coach under head coach David Domchek. Over those six seasons, Coach Cari compiled a 90-14-5 record.

Coach Cari has devoted much of his time towards the development of Emmaus soccer by completing his certification as a National Coach through the National Soccer Coaching Association of America. He has also received his Regional and Advanced Regional certificates and is the co-founder of the United Soccer Schools. Coach Cari has also served as a staff member of the Jeff Tipping Soccer School, the All-American Soccer Schools, and has helped coordinate the Emmaus Soccer Clinic, LMYA Micro Soccer Program, and has coached and trained for the STM Soccer Club.

Coach Cari also spent 14 years coaching boys and girls Track and Field. Coach Cari served Head Coach and as the distance coach for the Hornets, and spent six years as the sprint and hurdle coach for the Quakertown Area High School.

Coach Cari teaches 7th grade language arts at Lower Macungie Middle School. He has also served as the English Department Chair for the East Penn middle schools. He is a graduate of La Salle University and has received his Masters degree from Lehigh University in Educational Technology.

Among Coach Cari’s other East Penn ties, he is a 1989 alumnus, and two-time district champion as a member of the Green Hornet soccer team.

Coach Cari and his wife Colleen have four children: three daughters, Molly (11), Emma, (5), and Kate (2), and a son Nicholas (10).


Varsity assistant coach/goalkeeping coach: Kyle Grim, 7th Year

A former standout goalkeeper for both Emmaus High School and Bloomsburg University, Kyle is returning for his seventh season as an assistant coach /goalkeeping coach for the Hornets.

At Emmaus, Coach Grim led the Hornets to it’s only PIAA state final appearance before losing 0-1 in OT. Coach Grim was recognized as the top goalkeeper in the area in 2001 by The Morning Call.

Under Grim’s tutelage, past goaltender, Sean Roth has been name to the Al State team, a two-time All-Lehigh Valley Conference choice, and a 2007 & 2008 Allentown Morning Call All-Area 1st team selection.

Also with help under the guidance of Coach Grim, former Emmaus goalkeeper, Andy Fine was recognized as a two-time all Lehigh Valley Conference player and a Allentown Morning Call All-Area 2nd team.

Coach Grim also serves as the goaltending coach for the Lehigh Valley’s NPSL’s FC Sonic. Grim is also on staff for FC Lehigh, and is very dedicated to the specialization of goaltending by training keepers from LMYA, STM, Western Lehigh, among various other clubs.
Previously, Grim spent three seasons as the goalkeeping coach with the Emmaus Lady Hornets soccer team.
 


Junior Varsity Coach: Jim Meehl, 1st Season

2011 marks Jim Meehl's first season on the Emmaus boys’ soccer staff. He brings an excellent coaching background and history of success to his role as the junior varsity coach. In 2011, Coach Meeh served as the top assistant for the Lady Hornets. From 2005-2008, he was the head girls coach at Franklin Towne Charter High School, leading the team to the District 12 championship game and appearances in the PIAA Class AAA playoffs in 2007 and 2008. In the spring of 2009, as an assistant coach at George Mason High School in Falls Church, VA, he helped guide the team to the Virginia High School League Class A state championship.

Jim lives in Quakertown and is employed as a Health/Wellness/Fitness teacher at Eyer Middle School. He earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Penn State University (2004) and his master's in health education from Arcadia University (2008).
